The adidas Manchester Marathon, now the fourth largest marathon in Europe, is returning on Sunday 16th April 2023.
The event has increasingly become a favourite with runners of all abilities, ranging from some of the world’s greatest elite runners, to those who thought completing a marathon would never be possible. It’s the second largest marathon in the UK by a distance, with the 2022 edition seeing over 24,000 runners lace up for the challenge. Rave reviews have seen demand soar, with capacity having more than doubled in size since 2018 to cope.
Since the previous edition interest has been sky-high, with an initial 6,500 places going quickly in April. A limited number of Early Entries into the 2023 adidas Manchester Marathon were made available on Monday 12th September. This latest batch was the first opportunity for members of the public to secure a place since the spring and has seen record numbers sign up so far. With Early Entries closing on Wednesday 5th October, this high demand is expected to continue over the coming days as participants guarantee their spot at the start line.
For those not ready for the full 26.2-mile distance next spring, a relay entry is available enabling runners to split the distance between a team of 2 or 4. All relay team members receive a medal whilst tasting the famous atmosphere and Mancunian support along the route.
The adidas Manchester Marathon continues to commit itself to creating a positive impact on the local area and environment, contributing to the local economy, supporting businesses, and giving back to the community in the form of charitable donations from the Trafford Active Fund. The economic boost at the 2022 event surpassed £5.7 million, with local businesses set to benefit from continued future growth from the marathon in 2023 and beyond.
In addition to the personal achievement of crossing the finish line, in 2022 runners collectively raised £1.9 million in vital funds for the event’s official charity partners the Alzheimer’s Society, Cancer Research UK, British Heart Foundation and Sense. Over a million more was pledged to other charities thanks to runners completing the event, plus thousands opted to donate important funds to the Disaster Emergency Committee’s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal through the purchase of additional race bibs showing the flag of Ukraine, raising over £31,000.
Nick Rusling, CEO of the adidas Manchester Marathon, said: “The flat route might be what initially appeals to many runners from across the UK and Europe, but our feedback shows that it is overwhelmingly the unique atmosphere and sensational support on the course from Greater Manchester that everybody goes away taking about. We believe that we are on track to become the world’s friendliest marathon. Our new title partnership with adidas from 2023 will allow us to improve the experience for our runners and do even more in the local community.”
