The 2023 adidas Manchester Marathon finisher medal has been revealed following a vote which saw the public choosing their winning design.
This is the first time that the event organisers have opened the finisher medal design to a public vote, having done so to allow participants to have their say in what medal they’ll receive when crossing the finish line.
With the marathon being famous for its fast, flat, and friendly route around Manchester, it was important that the medal design portrayed the magic of the city. The iconic chunky medal design has this year been created to capture the Manchester skyline and reflect the host city in an unmistakable way.
Present in the design are many of the iconic buildings that make up the instantly recognisable Manchester skyline. The gold medal came out victorious over the silver and bronze editions, with the winning design receiving over half of the public vote.
Andrew Smith, CEO of Human Race said: “We were overwhelmed by the feedback and engagement the public vote received and could not be happier with the final design. Our trademark chunky medal is something of an icon within the UK marathon landscape, and so each year we try to conceptualise something really special for our runners.
“This year’s design plays homage to the city by capturing the Manchester skyline, and is a medal which we hope will be something our participants will be proud to hang in their homes. We’re aware of just how important the finisher medal is to those who take part and are very pleased that so many of them chose to have their say and be a part of that process.”
For many runners the event medal becomes a treasured memento of their experience, however, the organisers are continually striving to improve the sustainability of the event and reduce its impact on the environment. In 2022, they launched a Green Runner option for runners entering the adidas Manchester Marathon, providing them with the opportunity to enter in an eco-friendly way where they can forgo a finisher t-shirt and/or medal in favour of donating the relevant amount saved to support The Ocean Cleanup.
With over 90 percent of places already filled, the 2023 adidas Manchester Marathon promises to be a great event. Not only is it an ideal event for getting a new personal best time, but the incredible Mancunian support can be relied upon to encourage runners throughout the route and across the finish line.
With limited final places remaining, time for signing up is running out, additionally the deadline for runners to personalise their bib with their name is Monday 20th February. More information on entry types can be found on the official website www.manchestermarathon.co.uk/home/
Many runners take part to raise money for charity. In 2022, runners collectively raised £1.9 million in vital funds for charity including the event’s official charity partners, the Alzheimer’s Society, Cancer Research UK, the British Heart Foundation and Sense. There are still a number of official charity partner places available to the public at a discounted price – more information can be found on the official event website www.manchestermarathon.co.uk/charities/official-charities/
