Cardiff Half Marathon Seeks New Headline Sponsor for 2027

Run 4 Wales has opened the search for a new headline sponsor of the Cardiff Half Marathon from 2027, creating a significant opportunity for brands seeking to connect with one of the UK’s best-established mass-participation running events.

The organiser, a not-for-profit social enterprise and charitable trust, says the race brings together an audience of approximately 100,000 runners and supporters each October and reaches more than 11 million people through digital channels. Those figures are supplied by Run 4 Wales and should be understood as the organiser’s reported audience measures, rather than independently audited reach.

A running event with an international audience

The Cardiff Half Marathon attracts more than 30,000 participants and is a founding member of the SuperHalfs series, which links races in Lisbon, Prague, Berlin, Copenhagen, Cardiff and Valencia. Its international position is particularly relevant to potential sponsors: the event reaches committed runners who travel to take part, as well as local spectators and volunteers.

Run 4 Wales says the Cardiff Half has a World Athletics Elite Road Race Label. It also reports that general entries sold out within 12 hours in 2025 and that the event subsequently moved to a ballot system to manage demand. Together, those developments point to the value of a long-term relationship with an engaged participant community rather than a single weekend of logo exposure.

What the headline partnership offers

The commercial opportunity spans branding around the race weekend, direct participant engagement, digital and social campaigns, community initiatives and year-round activations. For running-industry brands, the prospect of meeting runners at different points in their training and race journey could be particularly attractive. For businesses outside the sector, the event offers a platform tied to health, participation and the Welsh capital.

Previous headline partners have included Oysho, Principality Building Society, Wizz Air, Cardiff University and Lloyds Bank, demonstrating the breadth of categories that have supported the event. The new search is for a headline partner from 2027 onwards; it should not be confused with the separately announced official travel partnership with Marathon Tours & Travel.

What this means for the running industry

Major road races increasingly operate as year-round communities with multiple commercial touchpoints. Sponsorship proposals therefore have to deliver value to runners as well as visibility to brands. The Cardiff opportunity provides a useful example of how an established event can package its race-day scale, international profile and wider community engagement.

Brands evaluating the opportunity will still need to assess the proposed rights, category exclusivity, activation costs and measurement framework directly with the organiser. Run 4 Wales has not publicly disclosed a headline sponsorship fee in its announcement.

Businesses interested in the partnership can contact the organiser at [email protected]. Full details appear in the official Run 4 Wales announcement.
