Woody Cook is Rubix VT Brighton Half Marathon Youth Race Starter

The Youth Race, part of the Rubix VT Brighton Half Marathon, returns on Sunday 25 February 2024.

The 1-mile course is designed for junior runners aged 7-17 and is located on Hove Prom. This year’s Youth Race will be started by well-known local resident, exciting DJ and presenter Woody Cook.

On starting the Youth Race Woody said:“I have run the Brighton Half Marathon many times with my dad, it is one of the most uplifting and joyous races you can run. The Brighton and Hove residents are so supportive – turning out in all weathers to cheer on the runners. The course is incredible, taking in all my hometown’s most iconic spots. Starting the Youth Race is a real honour as I get the chance to encourage the kids and pass on my love of running.”

Woody joins other well-known faces also supporting the Brighton Half Marathon including TV personality James Argent, actor Connor Swindells, comedian and TV presenter, Zoe Lyons and DS Chris Oliver from Channel 4’s SAS Who Dares Wins who are all running in support of their chosen charities.

The Brighton Half Marathon Youth Race is once again supported by Rockinghorse Children’s Charity. The local charity supports babies, children and young people, along with their families, at The Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital and The Trevor Mann Baby Unit in Brighton and all of the specialist children’s wards and baby units throughout Sussex.

Brighton Girl’s School will also be supporting the race this year with PE staff and pupils from the school leading the warm-up session. The school is also sponsoring bursaries for 50 paid places to make the race accessible to all, members of the school community are volunteering on the day and Brighton Girl’s will be providing prizes for the 30 Youth Race age category winners.

Places for the Youth Race are still available here but runners are urged to be quick as places are limited.

Every year the Brighton Half Marathon relies on over 450 volunteers who give up their Sunday morning to help with course marshalling, drink stations, baggage facilities and handing out medals and goody bags. To become a volunteer click here.
