ASICS has announced the 29th generation of its GEL-NIMBUS running shoe, introducing new cushioning materials and an updated sole geometry designed to deliver a softer, more comfortable ride.
The GEL-NIMBUS 29 will launch globally on 1 December 2026, priced at £170 in the UK.
New FF LUXE PLUS foam
At the centre of the update is FF LUXE™ PLUS foam, a lightweight material developed to provide softness underfoot as the miles add up. A new wave pattern on the bottom of the sole allows additional compression, while PureGEL™ technology is positioned beneath the heel to improve shock absorption and support softer landings.
The upper uses an engineered mesh construction intended to balance softness, breathability and structure. A knitted tongue and ribbed collar wrap the foot, and a pull tab is included to make the shoe easier to put on.
Underfoot, the HYBRID ASICSGRIP™ outsole has greater rubber coverage than the previous model to improve grip and durability across different surfaces. The shoe weighs approximately 279g for men and 238g for women.
Soaring Cloud design
The GEL-NIMBUS 29 uses a “Soaring Cloud” design concept inspired by the feeling of floating on an updraft. The sculpted midsole draws on the movement of clouds and lines found in classical Japanese painting, with colour transitions and bright accents intended to evoke sunlight on a cloud edge.
ASICS reports a carbon footprint of 11.4kg CO₂e per pair.
Laura Bolgen, Director of Global Product, Performance Running Footwear, said: “The GEL-NIMBUS™ series has always been synonymous with comfort. For its latest evolution, we focused on creating an even more plush and uplifting experience for runners.
“By combining our new FF LUXE™ PLUS foam with a newly shaped outsole, PureGEL™ technology and a premium upper, the GEL-NIMBUS™ 29 shoe delivers plush cushioning and lasting comfort to help runners feel supported as the miles add up. We hope this added comfort helps runners go further and experience the positive impact of movement on both body and mind.”
