66°North launches SS22 Campaign Waiting for summer since 1926

In Iceland we are always waiting for summer – for the days to get a little warmer, for a little bit of sun and a little less rain and a little less wind. But when things finally do improve, what you get is a very Icelandic summer. It may be July and it may be 24 hours of daylight but it can still get ugly very quickly.

So we try and grab as much summer as we can, put on our t-shirts, have friends over for a barbeque and grab our tents and sleeping bags to go looking for a break in the clouds and a safe place to camp – but we get ready for anything.

Otherwise we could be waiting for summer all summer long.

About the collection

The Spring / Summer 2022 collection from Icelandic outerwear brand 66°North is not only representative of these values but facilitates a life lived outdoors. Iceland’s summers can be as harsh as cold British winters, so the collection

has been engineered to cope with all weather conditions. Uncompromising in quality and consciously streamlined, the SS22 collection is a celebration of 66°North’s timeless core products in fresh new colors for the season.

66°North is excited two introduce new products to their collection for SS22 – the Hengill and Gardar jackets.

Both jackets have been designed to be the bridge between urban commuting and a casual activity jacket. Garðar comes in women’s fit and Hengill in both women’s and men’s fit.

The Skaftafell jacket is built for maximum comfort in a wide range of conditions and high-intensity activities with a fit designed for cross-functionality refreshed for SS22 in Ripe Red and is continuing in Dim Deep Ocean, Lava, and Retro Yellow.

The Hornstrandir is a high-tech jacket made from breathable three-layer GORE-TEX® PRO fabric and is waterproof to 28,000 mm/24 hrs. Perfect for hiking, climbing, mountaineering, tour skiing, and other sports that require technical, sturdy, and comfortable clothing.

Part of the Tindur collection of technical pieces, the fleece (made from 100% recycled polyester) and vest are dynamic, warming mid-layers for added warmth without limitations on movement. Now available in Brown Rose, Tree and Black for the season.

The Kársnes set (jacket, vest, and shorts) are all made to be highly breathable and light windbreakers and designed for a range of outdoor activities during the spring and summertime. Reworked in Bright Red and Silver Sky for SS22, including Flag Red for men’s vests.

The Vatnajökull is 66°North’s most versatile insulated jacket made of recycled materials. Well-suited for all changing weather conditions due to its breathability and will be available in standout Sunburst, Dark Midnight and Black for this season.

The Dyngja down jacket and vest are the everyday essentials to keep you comfortable throughout your commute to your evening adventures. Available in Brown Rose and Obsidian for SS22.

Behind the scenes

The campaign was shot in several places in mid-October 2021. Winter came extra early so finding summer was a bit tricky. Not for the first time, our original locations were

covered in snow, so that didn’t quite work. Thankfully Iceland always has something different happening. We found what we were looking for in Eyrarbakki, Reykjavík and the Reykjanes Peninsula where the volcanic eruption had just ended.

We tricked the sun into shining a little when the campaign was shot, so even though the temperature was only around 5°, it kind of looks like summer. An Icelandic summer anyway.
