The Ascension Seton Austin Marathon has renewed its partnership with SPIbelt, confirming the Austin-based accessories company as the event’s Official Running Belt for its 2027 edition. The agreement also provides a hometown showcase for SPIbelt as the company celebrates its 20th anniversary.
The partnership brings together a major US road-running event and a specialist brand whose products address a practical need for runners: carrying phones, keys, nutrition and other essentials during training and racing. For the event organiser, retaining an established equipment partner offers continuity ahead of the next marathon weekend.
Local running brand marks 20 years
SPIbelt, whose name stands for Small Personal Item Belt, develops expandable waist belts designed to hold personal items during exercise without the movement associated with less specialised storage options. The business is based in Austin and has built its identity around functional accessories for runners and other active customers.
As part of the renewed arrangement, SPIbelt will be present at the Health & Fitness Expo at the Palmer Events Center on 12–13 February 2027. The expo will give visitors an opportunity to meet the team and examine the brand’s running accessories before race day.
The Ascension Seton Austin Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K is scheduled for Sunday 14 February 2027. Participants will be able to choose between the full marathon, half marathon and 5K, making the event relevant to runners with different experience levels and training goals.
Partnership focuses on the runner experience
Magan Frausto, Partnership Manager of the Austin Marathon, described SPIbelt as a valued partner and pointed to the significance of celebrating a local brand during an event that attracts runners from beyond the city. The renewal continues an established relationship rather than introducing the brand as a first-time sponsor.
SPIbelt founder and chief executive Kim Overton said the anniversary gives the partnership additional meaning because Austin is where the brand began. Her comments in the organiser’s announcement emphasised the company’s aim of making movement easier through equipment that allows people to carry what they need.
The agreement illustrates how event sponsorship can support both product engagement and community connections. Running accessories are a category in which practical fit and comfort can be difficult to judge from online descriptions alone; a race expo offers opportunities for direct conversations with potential customers. That is a commercial consideration, rather than a claim about the partnership’s eventual sales performance.
Why the renewal matters for the running trade
Marathon partnerships offer brands more than a finish-line presence. Product demonstrations, expo activity, runner communications and the surrounding training cycle can provide multiple ways to build familiarity with a specialist audience. For an established business celebrating an anniversary, these activities can also reinforce the connection between its products and the community in which it was founded.
The organiser has not disclosed the financial terms or duration of the renewed SPIbelt agreement beyond its confirmation for the 2027 race. Brands and retailers evaluating similar partnerships should distinguish confirmed rights from possible activation opportunities and assess how any sponsorship could be measured.
