SCARPA has signed up as title sponsor of the Great Lakeland 3Day for the next three editions of the event.
In addition, the brand will become the exclusive footwear sponsor of the Montane Dragon’s Back Race. Both are organised by Ourea Events, which has welcomed SCARPA as the latest strategic partner for its portfolio of mountain running events.
With a history that goes back to 1998, the SCARPA Great Lakeland 3Day takes place in the Lake District each year over the early May bank holiday weekend. A three-day mountain journey with overnight camping, the event now offers a choice of six different courses, covering a variety of distances and degrees of challenge. The event centre changes every year, giving participants opportunities to explore different areas of the Lake District. The SCARPA Great Lakeland 3Day is famous for its laidback, friendly and welcoming atmosphere, allowing those involved to enjoy the scenery and spend time with fellow runners in camp. As title sponsor, SCARPA will use the event to showcase its extensive range of shoes and boots for trail and fell running, and other mountain activities. The 2023 SCARPA Great Lakeland 3Day will take place from 29 April until 1 May. For more details, visit www.greatlakeland3day.com.
SCARPA has also signed up as exclusive footwear partner for the Montane Dragon’s Back Race for three years. Widely regarded as the toughest multi-stage mountain race on the planet, the annual Montane Dragon’s Back Race attracts ultra-runners from around the world to attempt a six-day journey south along the mountainous spine of Wales, covering 380km, with 17,400m of ascent. SCARPA will be a presenting sponsor from the next edition of the race, which will run from 4-9 September 2023. For more details, visit www.dragonsbackrace.com.
Shane Ohly of Ourea Events comments: “We are delighted to welcome SCARPA as a key partner of Ourea Events. Both organisations have a deep love of the mountains and that is reflected in what we organise, what we produce, and in the ways in which we operate. SCARPA makes a range of great footwear and for that reason alone, the brand is an ideal partner for our events. However, we also share important values about responsible practices, and those will be key aspects of the relationship. We are excited about working together, and along with our other partners, throughout a busy calendar of events.”
SCARPA has been producing high quality outdoor footwear for over 80 years. The brand continues to be based in the foothills of the Dolomites in Italy where it all began and now produces a wide range of footwear to take consumers from the street to 8,000m summits and everything in between. SCARPA’s quality design and craftmanship offers the best in fit, performance and durability. The Trail Running collection’s design and development is led by trail running icon Marco De Gasperi and encompasses styles for various distances and terrains.
Dave Suddes, SCARPA trail running brand and sales director for the UK, adds: “We are incredibly proud to be supporting two such iconic events in the mountain running calendar. The Great Lakeland 3Day is an incredibly inclusive event based in the heart of the beautiful Lake District. SCARPA’s involvement in last year’s event proved to be a perfect match and we were incredibly excited to be offered the opportunity to become headline sponsor. SCARPA’s mountain heritage and vision of ‘No Place Too Far’ drives our commitment to produce sustainable, technical, mountain footwear for all activities, meaning that the Great Lakeland 3Day is an ideal fit for us.
“The Dragon’s Back Race and SCARPA’s trail running products are a perfect match. The race traverses the length of Wales and takes in some of the most gruelling technical terrain and stunning landscapes the country has to offer – what is not to love about it?
“SCARPA has an astonishing history and heritage, not unlike both events, and we look forward to building a strong future with Shane and the team.”
