adidas’ Sheila Chepkirui storms to victory in the Big Apple

Marking first world marathon major win for athletes in recently launched Adizero Adios Pro 4

adidas’ Sheila Chepkirui claimed the first World Marathon Majors win for an athlete wearing the Adizero Adios Pro 4 following its recent unveil.

Crossing the New York finish line in a time of 2:24:35, Chepkirui outran a competitive field to take home the winner’s medal in one of global running’s most prestigious events. Victory today marks Chepkirui’s first World Marathon Major win.

Launched in September this year, the Adizero Adios Pro 4 is the latest addition to the speed-focused franchise that has continually helped adidas athletes dominate podiums since the Adizero Adios Pro range’s launch in 2020, featuring on the feet of more World Marathon Major winners than any other brand. The shoe blends proven race-winning technology with fresh Adizero design aesthetics, including a new forefoot rocker point inspired by the revolutionary Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1, placed at 60% of the length of the shoe, which is lab-tested to trigger forward momentum and improve running economy.

Speaking after her win, Sheila Chepkirui said: “It’s been a long road to get here, with years of hard work along the way. To be able to participate in one of the world’s most famous races and win – it’s an amazing feeling. Standing on this podium today is indescribable. The Adizero Adios Pro 4 is such an exciting shoe which helped give me that added edge.”

  • LIGHTLOCK UPPER: The shoe introduces a first-of-its-kind lightweight, one-way stretch woven mesh upper that is paired with internal locking bands for a snug and secure feeling when running at high speed.
  • LIGHTTRAXION OUTSOLE: After studying strike patterns of some of adidas’ leading athletes, to understand where grip was needed most, these insights were translated into a new patterned outsole that maps material to key areas.

Key tech details:

  • STACK HEIGHT: 39mm / 33mm
  • MIDSOLE DROP: 6mm
