Altra, Kielder Marathon organisers, and the not-for-profit BOLDLI joined forces in Shoreditch on Wednesday (21st) to celebrate women in running and launch Stay Out There: She Runs Free, a collaborative effort focused on safety, community, and empowerment in the sport.
The evening kicked off with a 5K social run through East London, led by Altra athlete Holly Wootten, embodying the event’s spirit of connection and movement. Afterwards, attendees gathered for refreshments and a panel discussion hosted by broadcaster and former Olympian Allison Curbishley, who guided a conversation exploring the barriers women face in running, the power of community, and what true support and safety look like.
The panel brought together key voices from all three partner organisations, each offering a unique perspective and contribution to the initiative:
- Rob Herdman, Head of Marketing at Altra, shared the brand’s dedication to empowering runners through innovation and inclusivity
- Natasha Edwards, Co-founder of BOLDLI, highlighted the power of community in driving a more connected and supportive running culture
- Eve Muirhead, Olympic Champion and special guest, brought inspiration and insight from her elite athletic journey
- Holly Wootten, Altra athlete and advocate, spoke passionately about the initiative.
The discussion was further enriched by video messages from running legend Paula Radcliffe and North East England Mayor Kim McGuinness, alongside the presence of special guest Lisa O’Keefe MBE, Secretary General of IWG Women & Sport.
A Shared Journey to the Altra Kielder Marathon
The evening marked the launch of a joint training project, led jointly by Altra, the Kielder Marathon organisers, and BOLDLI, which will bring together a team of women from across the UK to train for the 2025 Altra Kielder Marathon. This initiative will provide participants with expert coaching, resources, and a supportive community as they prepare to take on ‘Britain’s most beautiful marathon.’
On 4th to 5th October 2025, the Kielder Marathon Weekend will showcase the stunning trails of Kielder Water and Forest Park while shining a spotlight on the achievements and experiences of women in running.
Applications are now open for Stay Out There: She Runs Free, welcoming women across the UK to be part of a team journeying to the 2025 Altra Kielder Marathon.
