Lucy Charles-Barclay joins the ASICS team

ASICS has signed British triathlete and reigning Ironman 70.3 World Champion Lucy Charles-Barclay to become part of its global ambassador team.

Lucy Charles-Barclay said: “Running has always represented a kind of freedom for me. It allows me to get out, explore the world and lose myself and clear my mind. I’m excited to be joining ASICS – a company that understands the positive benefits that exercise has on the body and mind, but that also understands the needs of athletes and delivers products that support me in taking my racing to the next level.”

Lucy Charles-Barclay made the switch to Triathlon in 2014, following a ten-year competitive swimming career. Less than a year after making the switch to triathlon, Lucy took home the Ironman and 70.3 Ironman title in the female 18-24 age group. Since turning professional in 2016, she has won Ironman competitions in South Africa, Lanzarote, Frankfurt and finished second at the Ironman Worlds in Kona between 2017 and 2019.

The ASICS METASPEED SKY shoe have been Lucy’s choice of shoe since the 2021 season, accompanying her to her first Ironman 70.3 World Championship title in St George, Utah, finishing a staggering eight minutes ahead of her nearest rival.  “Out of all the carbon plated shoes I tested, I felt the fastest in the METASPEEDSKY shoe. The responsiveness of the shoe was the best in the selection that I tested and I felt very confident training and ultimately racing in them.”

Olivier Mignon, Director of Sports Marketing at ASICS said: “We’re proud and excited to officially welcome Lucy to our ambassador team. Lucy had an outstanding season in 2021, with her talent and dedication helping her seal the deal with the Ironman 70.3 World Championship title. Alongside her preference to race in our shoes, her alignment with our ‘Sound Mind, Sound Body’ philosophy make her an incredible fit. We look forward to supporting Lucy through her current injury and, when the time is right, at competitions with our latest product innovations.”
