RUN X treadmill world championship opens qualification across 20 countries

Technogym and World Athletics have launched qualification for RUN X, an international 5km treadmill competition spanning 400 fitness centres in 20 countries. The initiative opened on 23 October 2026 and aims to put club runners and experienced competitors on a shared, digitally recorded leaderboard.

From gym session to world final

Runners can complete a certified 5km effort at participating centres until 24 January 2027. The top quarter of eligible participants in each country are due to progress to regional competition between 30 January and 28 February.

World finals are scheduled for 20–21 March 2027 at Technogym Village in Cesena, Italy, with the best ten competitors in each male and female age-group category invited. Organisers have announced a total prize fund of US$100,000.

What it means for running clubs and retailers

The format takes a familiar training tool and turns it into an organised competition. For gyms, it provides a measurable community activity; for runners, the appeal lies in comparing an indoor 5km performance with results from elsewhere in the world.

UK runners should check the official centre finder for participating locations rather than assuming their local gym is included. Indoor qualifying also reduces dependence on race-day weather, although equipment and venue rules still apply.
