Warrington Running Festival, in partnership with Birchwood Shopping Centre, took place in Warrington on Sunday, September 24th, and is the world’s first free-to-enter, chip timed, closed road running event.
Warrington Running Festival is part of The RunThrough Foundation’s Free Event Initiative aimed at empowering people from low-income areas across the UK to transform their lives and mental wellbeing through equal access to running events, training programmes and workshops.
This year’s running festival saw 6,000 runners take part in the event, which saw more than 20,000 people apply to.
Birchwood Shopping Centre, home to over 40 national and independent retailers, were proud to support the run and has been raising money for a range of worthy causes through the One Great Day initiative; a UK-wide annual charity fundraising day, raising money and support for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity and another local children’s charity close to the heart of each community.
All funds raised by Birchwood on the day will be evenly distributed between Great Ormond Street and Warrington-based children’s charities.
John Magee, Centre Manager for Birchwood Shopping Centre, said: “We were delighted to be named Gold partner for this year’s Warrington Running Festival.
“There was such a great turn-out on Sunday, not only runners but supporters, spectators and locals alike. The atmosphere was joyous and the day was full of fun!
“Here at Birchwood, we understand how important physical exercise is to our overall wellbeing and have had lots of activities at the shopping centre throughout the summer including a visit from the Warrington Wolves and a Crazy Golf event.
“We are working on an exciting series of activities for the autumn so watch this space!”
