‘Women’s Run Series’ launches women’s only series

Inaugural event to take place on International Women’s Day 2025

Women’s Run Series, the newly formed female only running events organiser, has launched with its inaugural event set to take place on International Women’s Day 2025, Saturday 8th March, at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Women’s Run Series will also be hosting events in Manchester and Newcastle in 2025 with exact dates and locations to be confirmed. The creation of the Women’s Run Series marks a bold step forward in the journey of women’s running and aims to be a catalyst for change with an emphasis on safety, inclusivity, and community.

Women’s Run Series are committed to increasing female participation in running events, ensuring that all females, regardless of background, feel welcome and supported. By partnering with grassroots groups and initiatives, we aim to foster the growth of women’s sport, championing diversity and promoting physical and mental well-being through the power of running. Together, we strive to build a vibrant community where every woman has the opportunity to thrive and inspire others to do the same.

It was recently highlighted in Strava’s 2024 Year in Sport Report that 40% of women’s runs were more likely to be completed indoors than those of men’s. In light of this, the Women’s Run Series presents the perfect opportunity and environment for more women to be participating in running outdoors in a safe and inclusive setting.

Lucy Wood, Founder of Women’s Run Series, commented: “I have been involved in running events for a long time so have a unique insight from both a race organiser’s perspective as well as from a female participation perspective of the state of women’s running across the mass participation industry. Undoubtedly women’s running and participation has come a long way in recent years but it is clear that there is still so much work to be done. That is why we have created the Women’s Run Series, recognising that while traditional running organisations are able to contribute to making positive change, far more drastic steps need to be taken in order to accelerate this change.”

Lucy continued, “It is so fantastic to finally bring the Women’s Run Series to life, having been developing the concept over a number of years. I must also extend my thanks to the many people who have helped make this possible, especially those trusted community leaders who have offered their time and guidance along the way. I can’t wait to kick the series off next year on International Women’s Day and be joined by women of all ages and backgrounds being able to participate in a safe and inclusive community.”

The Women’s Run Series invites women of all levels and abilities to unite and all be able to enjoy the joy of running together at our events. The Women’s Run Series will organise and deliver events across the UK in 2025, including the Women’s Run Series London 5k and 10k, with further events to be announced in Newcastle and Manchester. Entries for the Women’s Run Series London 5k and 10k are open now
