We invest heavily in running shoes, watches, race entries and training plans. But one of the most important parts of a runner’s support system costs almost nothing: other runners. WeDoRunning is building a new kind of running community designed to help more of us find those people, keep moving and enjoy the miles along the way.
Running is often described as the simplest sport in the world. Put on a pair of trainers, step outside and run.
Technically, that is true.
But anyone who has tried to start running, return after a long break, train through a British winter or prepare for a big event knows the reality is rather different.
The difficult part is rarely owning the right shoes. It is finding the motivation to get out of the door when it is dark, cold or raining. It is wondering whether you are running too slowly to join a group. It is doing another long Sunday run alone. It is moving to a new town and not knowing anyone. Or simply wishing there was somebody nearby who fancied the same five-mile run at roughly the same pace.
That is the problem WeDoRunning was created to solve.
Your running family
WeDoRunning is an online community that helps runners find other runners nearby, join meet-ups, discover events, log their running and earn rewards for being active.
Its philosophy is deliberately simple: every runner should be able to find people who get them.
That means the platform is not built exclusively around fast runners, race results or personal bests. Beginners, experienced marathon runners, walk-runners, wheelchair athletes, visually impaired runners and guides, parents running with buggies and people simply trying to become a little more active are all part of the same community.
For many runners, the most immediately useful feature is the ability to find a running buddy.
Members can search for runners nearby and look for people with compatible pace, distance and availability. Instead of joining a traditional club and hoping there is a suitable group, WeDoRunning allows the connection to begin with the individual.
Fancy an easy 5K after work? Looking for company on a 10-mile Sunday run? Starting Couch to 5K and want someone at the same stage? Training for your first marathon?
The idea is to make finding that person considerably easier.

More than another running app
There is already no shortage of technology recording what runners do.
Our watches know our heart rate. Apps know our splits. GPS knows exactly where we went. Training platforms can analyse almost every kilometre.
WeDoRunning is interested in something slightly different: what helps you run the next kilometre?
The platform can auto-sync activity from Strava, Garmin, COROS and Polar, or accept a GPX upload. But logging the run is only the beginning. Members can use the community to find people, organise or join meet-ups, discover routes and events, access training programmes and build connections around their running.
There are also Run Calls: one-off invitations that let a member ask nearby runners or existing buddies to join a particular session. It could be a tempo run, a long run, hills or simply an easy social jog.
It turns running data into something social and useful rather than another set of numbers on a screen.
Motivation works better when it is shared
Most runners know the difference another person can make.
You agree to meet at 7am, so you get up. You run a little further because someone is beside you. You discover a route you would never have tried alone. You enter a race because somebody else is doing it. And sometimes a person you originally meet for one run becomes somebody you run with for years.
That human accountability matters because consistency, rather than occasional bursts of enthusiasm, is what turns running into a habit.
WeDoRunning has therefore been designed around participation. Members can earn loyalty points for logged runs, meet-ups, events and other community activity. The purpose is not simply to reward the fastest runner; it is to recognise showing up.
That distinction matters. Running has an extraordinary ability to bring together people whose ability, background and goals may be completely different. A 25-minute 5K runner and a 40-minute 5K runner may never train together, but both understand how difficult that first kilometre can feel on a wet January morning.
£5 membership: value back, with an added layer of protection
Joining WeDoRunning as a member costs just £5. In return, members can choose a £5 voucher from selected running partners – so the membership fee can effectively be recovered in value from the outset.
The small fee serves another important purpose. Requiring a £5 payment gives WeDoRunning an additional validation step when someone joins, helping to deter fake or anonymous accounts and giving the community an extra layer of trust and protection.
Keeping the fee deliberately low means the platform remains accessible, while allowing WeDoRunning to build a community where genuine runners can connect with greater confidence.
It is creating an ecosystem in which runners, clubs, event organisers, coaches and running brands can participate in the same community.
Instead of runners having separate destinations for finding people, recording runs, looking for events, discovering routes and accessing offers, WeDoRunning wants to connect those experiences.
More than 57,000 members have already signed up to the community.
Built around real runners
There is another reason the concept feels familiar.
WeDoRunning grew out of JoggingBuddy, one of the early online communities created specifically to help runners find other people to run with. The new platform takes that original idea – that running becomes easier and more enjoyable when people connect – and builds a much broader participation platform around it.
The technology has changed enormously since those early running communities appeared. The underlying human need has not.
We still need encouragement. We still need accountability. We still occasionally need somebody to message us and say: “Are we still running tomorrow morning?”
Don’t just invest in your running kit. Invest in your running support system.
A new pair of shoes might make the next few hundred miles more comfortable.
A GPS watch might tell you exactly how fast you ran them.
But the right people can be the reason those miles happen in the first place.
So whether you are chasing a PB, training for your first event, returning to running, exploring new routes or simply looking for somebody nearby who runs at your pace, WeDoRunning has a straightforward invitation:
Find your people. Run together. Keep going.
