As On continues to break new ground in the sportswear industry, the addition of Spanish distance runner Laura Luengo reinforces the brand’s dedication to supporting athletes in their pursuit of success.
Luengo has emerged as one of the country’s premier long-distance runners, solidifying her status as a force to be reckoned with in the world of athletics.
In October, the 26-year-old made headlines by shattering the Spanish Half Marathon record (1:09:41). In her much-anticipated Marathon debut in Valencia in early December, Luengo continued to make waves and crossed the finish line in a remarkable time of 2:25:35. The result not only marked the best debut in the Spanish marathon so far and what would have been a new Spanish record, but also, in addition, she met the Olympic qualification standard for Paris 2024 on her first attempt at the distance.
“The 42k were exactly as I had dreamt them to be. From kilometer 30 onwards, I could not help but feel that the Marathon was welcoming me,” Luengo wrote on her Instagram account after her debut.
Luengo’s ascent to top-level performances has been a quick one over the last year.
“In 2023, I was awarded a sports scholarship at the high-performance center in Madrid. This was my opportunity to pursue my dream of becoming a professional athlete. I dedicated myself to running, and my progress was rapid—I earned spots on two national teams and secured the Spanish Half Marathon Championship title. My coaches recognized my proficiency in high mileage, prompting them to shift my training focus towards the marathon.”
A switch that has paid off for the 26-year-old.
