When you are a running brand born in the French Alps, you tend to know a little about running in bad weather. For Salomon’s team of apparel designers at the company’s Annecy Design Center (ADC), running when the days get shorter, colder and darker is a part of life. That mountain town lifestyle is what inspired the Fall/Winter 2024 running apparel collection, which delivers “runnable” winter protection with breathability and dynamic comfort—all with a progressive attitude that the company launched in Spring 2024.
“Creating runnable apparel means it has to offer dynamic comfort and that means comfort in motion, and not just any motion, but running motion,” said Hugo Debrueres, Head of Product for Salomon apparel. “We are a brand for people that want to run outside in the elements, whether it’s hot or cold. And the Salomon running products for Fall/Winter ’24 are proof of this design mindset.”
The new Sense Aero Stow running tights exemplify this approach. While the tights could be worn for yoga or everyday use, they are made with a fit designed for running and details that runners will appreciate, from the zipper at the bottom of the legs to the generous storage space.
“We serve people who spend time outdoors and carry things with them by using things like backpacks, of course, but we pushed the storage space to the limit in this tight,” Debrueres explains. “It’s not just a place to throw your earbuds, but to carry meaningful items for outdoor running like a flask full of water, gloves, a headband, or even the Salomon Bonatti jacket.”
All of these designs are informed by work done alongside Salomon athletes and then infused with a progressive attitude that aims to deliver confidence while being worn.
In Spring 2024, Salomon launched an all-new apparel range that featured Knit_Flow™, the company’s proprietary new fabric technology. The technology enabled the Salomon apparel team to create a collection of lightweight, body-mapped, temperature-regulating pieces designed to help runners perform their best in a variety of conditions.
Knit_Flow™ fabric is made from a unique “twisted yarn” that is powered by Ionic+Botanical® and 37.5® fabric technologies. It’s designed to reduce contact between the fabric and your skin so that air flows between you and the garment. The result is that your Salomon clothes will feel great even when you pick up the pace and perspire more on a warm day. The incorporation of Ionic+Botanical® (a naturally self-cleaning antimicrobial fabric) and 37.5® (an advanced thermoregulation and moisture management technology) also means that Salomon Knit_Flow™ apparel stays fresh longer and feels more breathable.
For the Fall/Winter 2024 season, the goal was to create breathable, weather-proof options to layer on top of that Knit_Flow layer in order to deliver long-lasting comfort on the trail or the road.
“The feedback from our spring 2024 range has been extremely positive from key retailers and consumers with regard to the technology, the look and the feel of the new apparel,” Debrueres says. “It was a step up in colors and the consumer experience. Now, we are building on the technology and staying committed to this new direction. We absolutely feel we have the right angle and now it’s about pushing it further and further to benefit runners from the trail to the city.”
