The National Running Show charity partner, Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, is offering two incredible opportunities to win a charity place at Run Alton Towers – for a distance of your choice!
The run takes place at the UK’s biggest Theme Park, Alton Towers on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 November 2024. Starting and finishing within the park, this event is open to all abilities, as you can choose to take on a chip-timed 5k, 10k or Half Marathon to earn yourself a unique-themed medal. Plus, after the race, you can enjoy the fun rides at the park as your entry includes FREE ride access.
You’ll be joining the likes of Lydia and her family (pictured), from Wolverhampton, who took up the challenge last year, in memory of her son, Elijah, who passed away at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, at just two-days-old.
Elijah was born in April 2019 at Lydia’s local hospital, but the elation of her baby’s arrival soon dissipated as it became clear that Elijah was unwell. Elijah’s condition was deteriorating quickly so he was urgently transferred to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for specialist care. It was there that doctors broke the crushing news that Elijah had suffered a stroke. They did all they could for Elijah but sadly, at just two-days-old, he passed away.
All these years later, Lydia still remembers the kindness and care the hospital staff showed her whole family. It was the kindness that inspired her to sign up and take on the Run Alton Towers Half Marathon, alongside her mum, Ruthlyn, who ran the 10k, and her older son, Malachi, who took on the Junior race. Collectively, they raised £600 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.
