Moving Communities and parkrun partner up

An attempt to drive insight, impact and access to physical activity

Moving Communities, a platform dedicated to providing data and actionable insight on sport and physical activity participation in England, has announced a new partnership with parkrun, a leading health and wellbeing charity, to make physical activity more accessible across the UK.

Launching on 15th November, this collaboration unites parkrun’s community-focused approach with Moving Communities’ data-driven expertise to tackle inequalities and inactivity, particularly in underserved areas.

Through this partnership, parkrun’s data on event participation and community engagement will become part of the Moving Communities dataset, offering a more comprehensive view of physical activity levels across the UK. This integration provides valuable insights enabling Sport England, parkrun, and other partners to make more informed decisions. By identifying where support is needed most, this data will help direct resources effectively to areas facing the greatest barriers to participation.

“parkrun’s accessibility has seen it carve out a unique position in communities across the UK, and this partnership provides Moving Communities with an exciting opportunity to use its data to gain valuable insights that can make a real difference in activity levels,” said Emma Bernstein, Strategic Projects Lead at Sport England. “This will help us to better understand and address barriers to physical activity, ensuring everyone has fair access to opportunities that support a healthier lifestyle.”

Ana Sanchez, DEI Lead at parkrun added: “Working with Moving Communities brings us closer to our mission of making the world happier and healthier. Understanding community needs through data allows us to create more opportunities for people to be active together, outdoors”.

By working together, Moving Communities and parkrun aim to pave the way for a healthier, more active nation, where physical activity opportunities are available to everyone, regardless of location or background. This joint effort is expected to not only lower barriers to participation, but also, demonstrate the power of collaboration and data-sharing to create lasting change, and inspire other organisations to join the mission of making sport and physical activity accessible to all.
